Done, and mostly done!

It's ready! Woot!

Our schedule of classes is updated and we're nearly ready to open for registration.

We are so pleased with what we have to offer our guests this year. We have some exceptional presenters, and great topics. There is truly something for everyone.

We hope you will take a look at the schedule. You may click HERE to do so. There will be some informational changes, but the schedule will remain essentially intact as it is. We hope you will be as excited as we are!

2nd Annual Kitsap County Genealogy Expo

April 26, 2014

Silverdale WA Stake Center

8:30 a.m. ~ 5:00 p.m.

The Expo is really taking on a life of its own, now. We have a great line-up of presentations already, and hope to have more. We have some exhibitors, as well, and will be adding to that group, too.

This year, the Expo will be held in the Silverdale WA Stake Center on Nels Nelson Road in Silverdale. After much deliberation and discussion, the location change was made largely due to the faster, and hopefully, more stable, internet connection. The building is larger, too, so there is lots of room to grow, and grow we will!

You can find more information on our web page, Kitsap County Genealogy Expo, by clicking on the name. Be warned: It is a fluid site, meaning, we're always updating and correcting. :) However, the latest class descriptions are there. The schedule will need some tweaking, but by the time we open for registration, it'll all be good! We also post periodically on our Facebook page - here, and try to keep the blog pages updated.

Please plan to attend, and share with your family and friends. The more, the merrier!

Didn't we have fun??!

The 1st annual Kitsap County Genealogy Expo held in Poulsbo, Washington, came and went, almost as a dream. We went from this -

to this -

in just a matter of a few minutes.

And our guests just kept coming! The doors, which were to open to the public at 8:30 a.m., saw people coming as early as 7:45. Were we surprised! I thought we'd run out of set-up time much more quickly than I'd supposed.

Kudos to the consultants, exhibitors, presenters and others who assisted for their hard work and participation in this event. There were plenty of helpers to go around. Their smiles and welcoming attitudes set the tone for the whole expo.

We offered exhibits from local societies and some of our family history consultants. We also had breakfast snacks and beautiful flowers.

Classes began at 9:20 and continued until 12:05. Most things went off without a hitch, though the internet connection was incredibly slow and did cause a few problems for presenters. Beyond that, our guests appeared to be enjoying themselves. The class sizes were much larger than many anticipated, not a bad thing!

From the comments I received from participants personally and through evaluations, the whole event was a rousing success. The two 'complaints' were that the internet was too slow and the event was too short! I can definitely think of worse things.

Will we do it next year? Heck, yeah!

My, Oh, My! How Will You Choose?!

We have an amazing selection of presentations, if I do say so myself! It's just a lucky thing for me that I'll be busy presenting so I don't have to decide which classes to take. I am so, so pleased with the responses to our requests for presenters.

Just today, we added a presentation on Swedish and Norwegian research by a man who came up through the ranks. Bruce Tillman has both nationalities running through his veins. Through his quest to discover his Scandinavian heritage, he has become familiar with helpful programs and sites. He will be sharing his experience in the hopes of helping others further their research. I am so glad he has come on board.

There is still time to register. You can register at the site: http://kitsapgenexpo.org. You won't be locked in to the classes you choose; you can change your mind once you arrive at the expo. But, it will really help us have a more accurate head count.

Can't wait to see you there!

Added another class...

We added our final (I think) class to the list of presentations available to our guests. Claire Smith, the current president of the Bainbridge Island Genealogical Society, will be sharing the importance of using directories in furthering your family history research. Directories are a much overlooked resource which can offer a variety of information of value to genealogists. Just one more great class coming to the Kitsap County Genealogy Expo! Register Now! I made some updates to class titles and descriptions yesterday. Oh, My! We have some wonderful presentations lined up. I don't know how you'll decide which ones to take. I would suggest bringing at least one friend. Then, you can divide and conquer. And, believe it, or not, we have two more speakers who will be announced this week. I'm so, so excited at what we have to offer. Please pass the word. There will definitely be something for everyone at this expo.

Registrations will be accepted right up until we open, but the sooner you register, the better we can plan. Just click under the picture. Thanks.
