Didn't we have fun??!

The 1st annual Kitsap County Genealogy Expo held in Poulsbo, Washington, came and went, almost as a dream. We went from this -

to this -

in just a matter of a few minutes.

And our guests just kept coming! The doors, which were to open to the public at 8:30 a.m., saw people coming as early as 7:45. Were we surprised! I thought we'd run out of set-up time much more quickly than I'd supposed.

Kudos to the consultants, exhibitors, presenters and others who assisted for their hard work and participation in this event. There were plenty of helpers to go around. Their smiles and welcoming attitudes set the tone for the whole expo.

We offered exhibits from local societies and some of our family history consultants. We also had breakfast snacks and beautiful flowers.

Classes began at 9:20 and continued until 12:05. Most things went off without a hitch, though the internet connection was incredibly slow and did cause a few problems for presenters. Beyond that, our guests appeared to be enjoying themselves. The class sizes were much larger than many anticipated, not a bad thing!

From the comments I received from participants personally and through evaluations, the whole event was a rousing success. The two 'complaints' were that the internet was too slow and the event was too short! I can definitely think of worse things.

Will we do it next year? Heck, yeah!

My, Oh, My! How Will You Choose?!

We have an amazing selection of presentations, if I do say so myself! It's just a lucky thing for me that I'll be busy presenting so I don't have to decide which classes to take. I am so, so pleased with the responses to our requests for presenters.

Just today, we added a presentation on Swedish and Norwegian research by a man who came up through the ranks. Bruce Tillman has both nationalities running through his veins. Through his quest to discover his Scandinavian heritage, he has become familiar with helpful programs and sites. He will be sharing his experience in the hopes of helping others further their research. I am so glad he has come on board.

There is still time to register. You can register at the site: http://kitsapgenexpo.org. You won't be locked in to the classes you choose; you can change your mind once you arrive at the expo. But, it will really help us have a more accurate head count.

Can't wait to see you there!

Added another class...

We added our final (I think) class to the list of presentations available to our guests. Claire Smith, the current president of the Bainbridge Island Genealogical Society, will be sharing the importance of using directories in furthering your family history research. Directories are a much overlooked resource which can offer a variety of information of value to genealogists. Just one more great class coming to the Kitsap County Genealogy Expo! Register Now! I would suggest bringing at least one friend. Then, you can divide and conquer. And, believe it, or not, we have two more speakers who will be announced this week. I'm so, so excited at what we have to offer. Please pass the word. There will definitely be something for everyone at this expo.

Update...

We are working fast and furiously to provide a high quality experience for you at the Kitsap County Family History Expo coming up on April 20th in Poulsbo. As with any worthwhile endeavor, there've been a few glitches, and will probably be a few more. However, the wheels of progress are rolling forward.

Right now, the class list is slightly limited, but we're getting more presentations and exhibits lined up this week. The registration page on the site will go live on Monday, March 25th. There may be a few changes in what we are offering, but rest assured, they'll all be great!

Keep watching....

Onward!

Just a little update to let you know that work continues to get this expo up and going. There are now at least six confirmed presentations available. Descriptions have been put on both the website and the blog.

We added a couple of pages to the blog to help you (and us) keep track of our progress. We hope they're helpful to you, and you'll keep checking back.

Excitement is in the air over this event! Posters for advertising are in the works and should be available soon. We're continuing reaching out to different organizations in the effort to provide an exciting and quality genealogy expo for you. Keep watching! Oh, and tell your friends. :>)

Coming Soon!

Yep! We are having a family history expo in our very own county! I'm pretty excited to get to be a part of it. Of course, it's not limited to residents of Kitsap County. We are really hoping this will be a convenient venue for people all over the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas, and beyond.

We've reached out to several organizations in the area to provide speakers and presenters with high quality and varied tips, suggestions and information for our attendees. There is a lot to look forward to, and a lots of planning, yet.

Please share this information with your family and friends. We hope to have a huge (ginormous?) turnout!
